Prizes and accolades
Trollhättan and Lidköping –the two municipalities in which the 2009 International Bioenergy Days will be held – are at the cutting edge in the development and use of bioenergy. Both communities have committed themselves to sustainable technologies and concepts, as evidenced by a long succession of prizes and accolades. These were awarded for everything from far-sighted ideas to success in making environmental work attractive to so many.

The prizes and top rankings in the field of the environment awarded to the municipalities guarantee world class destinations of the study visits arranged for the 2009 International Bioenergy Days.

Trollhättan was awarded the Swedish Royal Environmental Prize back in 1996 and gained the title of Recycling Municipality of the Year for 1999. In 2002, Lidköping was awarded the title of Swedish Ecoenergy Municipality, and Trollhättan was the runner-up. These recognitions were justified by the broad community involvement and many good examples of work towards a sustainable energy system. In 2008, Trollhättan and Lidköping gained first and second places respectively in the climate index ranking by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.

The Association of Swedish Energy Consultants declared the Energy Consultants of Lidköping Municipality the 2008 Energy Consultants of the Year in Sweden. In the same year, Trollhättan topped the list for new registrations of environmental cars at more than 53 percen of all new cars. In 2009, Lidköping Municipality won first prize in the ManagEnergy Local Energy Action competition during the EU Environmental Week in Brussels for its successful way of working with energy efficiency improvements in companies and a significant increase in the use of renewable fuels.
